Aluminum Extrusion Fabrication
Turn an extrusion reference into a finished-part specification. Define cut lengths, holes, threads, locating faces and the required condition after machining.
REQUEST A QUOTEA machining model needs a drawing that identifies the acceptance requirements. Separate the requested features from the inspection method and confirm the process route in the quotation.

Cutting and end preparation
State the finished cut length and its units, quantity, end requirements and edges that need burr removal. Identify whether a cut end is visible, bears against another part or locates the assembly. These details determine what the drawing must control after cutting.
Need to separate section dimensions from finished features? Read the tolerance and wall-thickness brief.

CNC and drilling requirements
Show hole locations, thread designations, depths and machined datums on the finished-part drawing. Include access restrictions and mating parts where they affect the setup. State whether dimensions apply before or after finishing. The supplier must confirm the available operations and achievable requirements for the specific part.
For locating faces and hole patterns, use the CNC drawing checklist.

Machining details to put on the drawing
Use these fields to request a process review. Availability, equipment envelope and achievable accuracy must be confirmed for your part.
| Requested operation | Inputs for review | Acceptance question |
|---|---|---|
| Cut to length | Finished length, quantity, end condition and datum | Which length and end requirements apply to the delivered part? |
| Drilling & tapping | Hole locations, thread designation, depth and access | Are positions measured from the extrusion or a machined datum? |
| CNC features | Controlled model plus drawing, locating faces and critical features | Which requirements apply before and after surface treatment? |
| Deburring & edge preparation | Edges to break, visible surfaces and handling needs | How will edge condition be defined and checked? |
If the model does not carry inspection requirements, add a controlled drawing with datums and critical features.
Specify the surface after machiningList the operations and finished dimensions in the quotation rather than assuming they are included with the extrusion. Ask the supplier to confirm setup access, achievable requirements and inspection records for your drawing. No machine travel, production tolerance or equipment ownership is asserted here.
Agree the finished-part scope.
Distinguish stock-section length from finished cut length, and name each secondary operation. Compare the same drawing revision and delivered condition using the order preparation guide before release.
Check the delivered features.
Specify which datums locate holes, how edges are accepted and whether dimensions apply before or after finishing. Record the required evidence in an inspection and documentation brief.
